V roce 1963 za\u010dala americk\u00e1 korporace Pantone Inc. prezentovat sv\u016fj syst\u00e9m barev \u2013 Pantone Matching Syst\u00e9m, kter\u00fd vyu\u017e\u00edvaj\u00ed v\u00fdrobci barev, vl\u00e1ken, textili\u00ed i plast\u016f. Daleko p\u0159edt\u00edm ale podobnou encyklopedii barev vytvo\u0159il um\u011blec zn\u00e1m\u00fd jako A.Boogert, kter\u00fd v roce 1692 vytvo\u0159il knihu o 800 stran\u00e1ch, kde se v\u011bnuje m\u00edch\u00e1n\u00ed barev.

M\u00e1 tedy smysl, \u017ee autor v jej\u00edm \u00favodu napsal, \u017ee ji vytvo\u0159il pro vzd\u011bl\u00e1vac\u00ed \u00fa\u010dely. Je pozoruhodn\u00e9, \u017ee je ps\u00e1na ru\u010dn\u011b a je doslova a do p\u00edsmene jedin\u00e1 sv\u00e9ho druhu.\u201c, uvedl.
