Kolem roku 1885 se objevil ve Francii stylistick\u00fd trend, kter\u00fd se naz\u00fdval pointilismus. Tahy mohou b\u00fdt kulat\u00e9, \u010dtvercov\u00e9 (otisk \u0161t\u011btce na plocho) nebo m\u00edrn\u011b prot\u00e1hl\u00e9. Body jsou bl\u00edzko sebe. Pokud se vzd\u00e1l\u00edte od pl\u00e1tna na d\u00e1lku, slou\u010d\u00ed se do souvisl\u00e9ho obr\u00e1zku. Barvy na t\u011bchto pl\u00e1tnech jsou obvykle sv\u011btl\u00e9, jasn\u00e9, vzdu\u0161n\u00e9. Pointilist\u00e9 pou\u017e\u00edvali barevn\u00e9 sch\u00e9ma podle impresionist\u016f, ale tahy \u0161t\u011btcem pou\u017e\u00edvaly pouze jako body. V\u0161echno to za\u010dalo fascinac\u00ed mlad\u00fdch um\u011blc\u016f teori\u00ed barev. Kreativn\u00ed rozvoj Seurata v\u0161ak pokra\u010doval. Vyznava\u010di nov\u00e9ho hnut\u00ed uchovali na palet\u011b barvy a pak je systematicky aplikovali na pl\u00e1tno ve form\u011b te\u010dek.
